The Fullerton Community Rotaract Club (FCRC) Charter Celebration”

On March 7, Fullerton Community Rotaract had their Chartering Permit Celebration, making the Club the newest Community-Based Rotaract in District 5320. Consisted of a hand full of members driven by a need to make a difference for their community, this club is predicted to take the idea of “Service above Self,” to new heights. Both Rotaract and Rotary clubs from the district attended in support of the dawning of the new club, ranging from the Clubs’ Sponsor, Fullerton Sunrise Rotary, to other supporting Rotary, Rotaract and Interact Clubs.

A light meal and dessert was served to guests as club members presented their future project ideas for the Community and Internationally. Also including within the presentation was a series of events that the club has already been highly active in. Fullerton Community has assisted in the UCLA Dance Marathon for Children with AIDS and HIV, assisted in the construction of Homes for Homeless Individuals, Veterans, and Families in need with Habitat for Humanity, and has assisted YWCA in raising over $30,000.00 for over 20,000 women in Orange County affected with Breast Cancer. Board members ended the presentation by explaining their future events with the Adopt-A-Park Program, Mentorship for local High Schools, and presented their International Service Project, the Rancho Sordo Mudo Mexico trip, where Fullerton will assist in a food drive and volunteer services for deaf children in Valle De Guadalupe, Mexico. Guests were given the opportunity to share their support and opinion at the end of the presentation.

Twisting the idea of leader and follower, Ron Gillet, Fullerton’s Advisor, explained the significant difference these members are making within their community. “I’m supposed to lead this club and its members by my example,” said Gillet, “but instead, I find that rather than them learning from me the majority of the time, I am learning from them.”

The event ended with what sums up the view of this club towards the service they do for their community. “There will be a time where we will celebrate our accomplishments, a time when we will feel tired, and a time dedicated to hard work. There will even be a time when we will feel small, but, there will never be a time where we will not be ready to help.” This is Fullerton Community Rotaract.
