October 2011
Composed of both University-Based, and Community-Based Clubs, Rotaract District 5320 is made of the future leaders of the community. With the best Universities in the District, from University of California, Irvine, to CSU Long Beach and Chapman University, Rotaract is growing their roots with the seeds of education. As these Rotaractors grow, they continue their Service in clubs such as Rotaract Long Beach and Fullerton Community Rotaract.
Welcome everyone, to the new Rotaract District Site! I want to first begin by thanking Rotary District 5320 in funding the site, and also Kussner IT in hosting the site as well. The site was created to be completely club-centered, clubs can upload and download files, discover events with other clubs in and outside of the District and also how they can bridge the gap between Rotaract and Rotary and in so doing, become greater leaders for tomorrow.
A few new additions to our District site are the Club Headlines, and also The Bridge. The Club Headlines gives Rotaract Clubs the opportunity to share basic information, such as who they are and what their vision is, their website and social media links, or event their contact information and Board of Directors.
The Bridge is intended to help Rotaractors interact and meet other Rotary Clubs. The idea is that Rotaract Clubs are sometimes looking for collaboration with Rotary Clubs, and on the other hand, Rotary Clubs are always looking for Rotaractors. It is a compilation of Rotary events that have extended the invitation to Rotaract attendance, given that the Rotaractors follow up and email ahead of time.
As District Governor, my vision is to Build a District centered around strong and sustainable clubs. My goal for the year is to help make the current and growing clubs stronger, to create a bond across clubs in the district. As the future of Rotary and leaders of tomorrow, my theme for the year is ‘Building a Culture of Service.’ The reason for this theme is that Rotaract is not only able to build leaders, but we are also able to grow and create a long-term impact in the world and also the perception others have of our generation. The 1960′s was a time of Civil Rights, 20′s a time of economic prosperity. I want our generation to be known for producing leaders and having service as a natural aspect of our everyday lives. During the first quarter we have had many accomplishments. Three Rotaract Clubs are forming, and all of them are at a great start. Chapman University Rotaract had over 70 inquiries about Rotaract in less than a week, UCI Rotaract had over 30 individuals attend their first meeting, and Whittier Community Rotaract has formed their Board of Directors and is in the process of Chartering.
Our current clubs are also on a great start in the first quarter. Rotaract Long Beach had a successful event with their San Sculture Cotest, with over 500 people in attendance. Fullerton Rotaract finished their FIES Project in rebuilding the Childrens Playhouse for a transitional living center, and CSULB Rotaract has resumed volunteering with the elderly in Long Beach.
While the yearly theme is to build a culture of service, our October theme is ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month.’ This is meant as a call to action and awareness of what struggles others are facing, and also as a possible starting point for projects for our current clubs.
